Soy Free
Day 2 of Soy-Free. I am continually shocked at how many items contain soy. Frostings (both pillsbury and betty crocker), mayo, and vegetable oil (mine was 100% soybean oil), was just the tip of the iceberg. I hope this works!
What Hides Under Your Sink
I called a bunch of companies today trying to find out what contains either Gluten or Soy... Here's what I found. (I'll update this soon, as many companies needed to "get back to me".
Febreeze (both fabric and air effects): contains soy
Endust: just sent me a safety chart with some ingredients listed, but wasn't thorough enough to be sure.
Great Value Natural Dishwasher Gel: contains Soy
Dawn: Contains Soy
Windex: Gluten and Soy Free
What Hides in Your Medicine Cabinet
Today I discovered that one of my Spring Valley Fish Oil Supplement bottles has Soy. The other one doesn't list it. I called and they said they have multiple suppliers and the ingredients can vary depending on the supplier. I'm waiting to hear from the supplier if the one not marked with Soy is ok.
I also called my pharmacy regarding my Metaprolol 50mg extended release tablet. They explained that the pills in my hand were from a different company than they were now using. So I called both. Watson (now owned by Actavis), said they did not add gluten to the product, but that they could not guarantee that it might not become contaminated in the manufacturing/packaging process. They also said that while it did not contain Soy Protein it did contain Soybean Oil. I'm still waiting to hear from Mylan, the company my pharmacy is now using. In the meantime, I'm postponing my use of this medication. My doctor explained that the medicine has no effect on my heart condition, but rather keeps my chest pain in check. So I won't be in any danger from not taking it, just discomfort.
Update: I did hear from Mylan and their Metaprolol doesn't contain gluten or soy.
