Well, I've now done 2 full weeks dairy free, then back on dairy... No change one way or the other. I didn't seem to have a reaction getting off it and I didn't have any reaction getting back on it. So for the time being, I'm going to assume I don't need to go dairy free long term. However, the headaches and nausea that started about 3 weeks after I went gluten free (and several days before going dairy free) have continued through it all. Night before last, I didn't even make it through my dinner before feeling nauseous.
Now I will say that I accidentally ingested dairy on an occasion or two during the trial. But, again, it didn't seem to make a difference one way or the other, especially in regard to the headaches and nausea. But here's my theory. After my first few weeks of going gluten free, I started finding more gluten free items on my shopping trips. Many of those items contain soy. And of course, during my dairy trial, many substitutes there are also soy. So given that soy is one of the "Big 8", I'm considering trying that next, to see if I'll start feeling better.
